Dental Bridge and Dental Crowns

Dental Bridge and Dental CrownsDental Bridge and Dental Crowns are fixed prosthetic devices that are cemented onto existing teeth or implants by a dentist or prosthodontist. Crowns are utilized most generally to fully cover or “cap” a broken tooth or cover an implant. Bridges are generally used to embrace a space if you’re missing one or more teeth. They are bonded to real teeth or implants enclosing the space where the tooth once stood.

What is a Dental Crown?

Dental Crown is basically a fabricated tooth. It’s generally made of porcelain or ceramic that can be color and texture-matched to your existing teeth. A crown can also be manufactured of gold compounds for enhanced durability when replacing a back tooth. Usually, a metal crown will have enamel bonded to the surface to give it strength and a natural look.

How is a Dental Crown applied?

Dental Crowns are utilized when a real tooth is broken, fractured or lost. The tooth is filed down and reshaped into a smaller size. Any decay is extracted and the tooth formation is altered to support the crown. The crown fits like a cap over the newly shaped tooth and is cemented into position.

What is a Dental Bridge?

Dental Bridge is a prosthetic appliance that restores missing teeth. Bridges are normally produced of enamel fused to metal in order to do both strength and a natural look.

How is a Dental Bridge fitted?

Dental Bridge consists of artificial teeth rigidly connected between two crowns. The teeth on both sides of the gap are fixed for these crowns and bridge is bonded into place. In some cases, it’s likely to use implants to reinstate the lost teeth rather than using the present teeth. Once a bridge is bonded into position, it looks and works just like real teeth.
