Description

Flap surgery is a procedure to open the gums to expose the roots of the teeth from very deep pockets, thereby providing easy access and visibility. These pockets are filled with tartar and infected dead tissue that can be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected and, if possible, regenerated using bone grafts. Once the area is numbed with local anesthesia, the periodontist/gum specialist opens/lifts the gum back so that we can visualize the tartar that may be attached to the roots.
